2004 Business of Year Award--
St. Petersburg Area of Commerce
Shirley S. Alquist, co-owner/co-operator of Alquist Enterprises, was both a Finalist and Winner of a St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce 2004 Business of the Year Awards, Rookie of The Year-- Howard P. Ross Entreprenurial Academy Graduate category.
This category is one of six Business of the Year categories for the St. Petersburg Chamber. Each category's applicants are narrowed down to three Finalists by a committee of judges and, among those three, a category Winner is selected.
Shirley was a Finalist last year in the Chamber's 2003 Business of the Year Awards (same category). In 2003, she won a similar Finalist Award at the Greater Brandon Area Chamber of Commerce in its homebased business categoy, as well as the Pinoneer Award from the Tampa Bay Chapter of NAWBO, the National Association of Women Business Owners.
Shirley is a NAWBO member and serves as a Board Member and Membership Chair for the Tampa Bay Chapter.
The 2004 Finalist and Category Winner Awards were presented at an exquisite dinner and gala at the St. Peterburg Hilton Grand Ballroom, attended by approximately 450 community leaders and business people.
Shirley's Award was earned because of her outstanding growth and achievements with her AMSOIL distribution business, The Alquist Advantage Network, part of Alquist Enterprises, during the last 12 months.
The dinner and gala had a racing theme, "Driven To Success." Each of the 45 tables, sitting 10 each, had an empty AMSOIL quart bottle as a centerpiece.
Each bottle was filled with sand and four inserted checkered racing flags were added to each bottle, giving the AMSOIL brand powerful recognition, which was reenforced by the 45 second video of Shirley and her powerful AMSOIL business success story.
These bottles were donated to the Chamber by both AMSOIL INC. and Alquist Enterprises.
