Shirley S. Alquist was awarded as a Finalist at the St. Petersburg
Area Chamber of Commerce 2003 Outstanding Business Of The
Year Awards large gala held at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort on
May 8, 2003.
Shirley is co-owner/co-operator of Alquist Enterprises along with
her husband, John J. Alquist. Alquist Enterprises operates a large,
multi-state AMSOIL synthetic oils and lubricants distributorship,
The Alquist Advantage Network.
The firm also provides business consulting, professional public
speaking and website services.
A classroom teacher for 35 years, Shirley took over AMSOIL distribution
responsibilities after the death of her late husband in January 2001.
In
June 2002, she left teaching to transform her AMSOIL distributorship
into a full time and very fast-growing business.
Shirley had no prior business experience, but she learned from her new
husband, John, and enrolled in and graduated from the St. Petersburg
Area Chamber of Commerce's "Entreprenurial Academy," designed for
those entering the business world.
Her astonishing success within only 11 months of becoming a full time
businesswoman led to the her nomination in the Awards competition
in the "Rookie of the Year" (Entreprenurial Academy Graduate) category.
She is among more than 400 recent Academy graduates.
Three were selected as finalists, including Shirley, in the Rookie category
from numerous nominations. And the St Petersburg Area Chamber of
Commerce offered six other awards categories for differing types and size
businesses--each with three finalists as well who were honored at the
gala.
