Synthetic means the result of putting together of two or more things into a coherent whole, according to various dictionary definitions. It also means not of natural origins, but man made.
For example, fully synthetic oils contain no petroleum or other naturally derived substances. AMSOIL INC. makes fully synthetic oils.
By comparison, most other oil companies offer "partially synthetic" oils, which are inferior, since they contain petroleum substances also.
